Sawade
Sawade Case Study
Since 2019, we have had the privilege of working with Sawade Berlin, a renowned chocolate manufacturer from Berlin that has been making sweets using traditional craftsmanship since 1880. Our task was to modernise and develop the online shop to become a digital extension of this rich history.
What were the collaboration assumptions?
The goal of our collaboration was to create an online shop that preserves the spirit and values of Sawade while providing a modern and convenient shopping environment for customers. It was important to us that every aspect of the shop reflects the passion and craftsmanship that Sawade puts into its products.
The biggest challenges for the customer?
As a company with a long history and an established reputation for chocolates, Sawade faced the challenge of bringing the same values and quality to the online world. The challenge was to create a platform that not only sells, but also tells the story of the brand and its products and encourages customers to discover and enjoy luxury sweets.
How did we manage that?
We had originally taken over an online shop that was running on Shopware 4 and required significant repairs and changes. Our first step was to migrate to the newer version of Shopware 5, which allowed us to introduce new features and improve security and usability. We focussed on fine-tuning the details to make the shopping experience intuitive and enjoyable.
Unique functionalities
- Product visualisation: We have used advanced photographic techniques to convey the uniqueness and quality of Sawade chocolates.
- Product stories: Each product in the shop has a story that describes its origin and unique characteristics, so that customers can develop a deeper understanding and appreciation for the craftsmanship.
- Personalisation of orders: We have enabled customers to personalise their praline packaging for special occasions, making each order unique.
Results
During the COVID-19 pandemic, when traditional sales were hampered, Sawade's online shop proved to be an important sales channel that got the company through difficult times. The online shop not only compensated for the decline in sales in the shops, but also increased the company's overall sales.
What have we learnt?
This project has taught us how important it is for technology to support tradition, not replace it. We have realised that even the most traditional companies can find new ways to grow through digital transformation. Our collaboration with Sawade has also shown how flexibility and adaptation to new market conditions can enable a business to survive and thrive in a changing world.
